JOB BRIEF
DETROIT AXE seeks a stable of dedicated Axemasters to assist with a revolutionary
concept in interactive entertainment opening soon in Ferndale. Competitive amateur
axe throwing, though long an event in lumberjack competitions, was born in a Toronto
backyard in 2006. In the years since the sport has spread rapidly across Canada,
throughout the eastern United States, and into Great Britain. We are thrilled to bring
this compelling activity to southeastern Michigan, and are looking for individuals who
are athletic, engaging, and deeply committed to the guest experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain a safe environment for all guests and staff.
Prepare and maintain a clean, organized, and competitive arena.
Provide an exceptional guest experience from their arrival through the completion of
the competition.
Teach each guest proper axe throwing technique, providing demonstration, advice,
mentoring, and coaching as necessary.
Inform each guest of the safety regulations integral to the DETROIT AXE experience,
and gently but consistently enforce same.
Organize all elements of the axe throwing competition, including the initial round-robin
seeding and the seeded competition itself.
Maintain and announce scoring throughout the competitive process.
Arbitrate all disputes fairly, quickly, and safely.
Enforce all the applicable liquor laws of the state and, in a similar vein, closely monitor
the condition of all guests in the arena to ensure appropriate behavior and sobriety.

REQUIREMENTS
Experience providing and an irrepressible enthusiasm to provide truly exceptional
guest service.
Must be a proficient communicator.
Must be proficient in use of tablets and/or iPads, or have the ability to learn.
Ability and desire to teach and mentor in an engaging and entertaining fashion.
Ability to safely and accurately throw an axe.
Ability to be pleasantly forceful when necessary.
Able to enforce the safety standards of DETROIT AXE without upsetting the overall
guest experience.
Able to lift 50 pounds.
Some experience with household power tools is helpful.
TIPS certified, or able to accomplish same.
Should have or develop an interest in the sport of axe throwing and its history, and be
able to communicate same.
